OPERA-2d is a finite element program to analyze electrical engineering designs in two dimensions. It includes a Pre and Post-Processor environment and analysis modules. The software can be used as a "virtual prototyping" tool, allowing conceptual deisgns to be tried and tested quickly and easily. OPERA-2d software analyzes the mechanical and thermal effects of a device, including the coupling to the electromagnetic fields. OPERA-2d can be used for axi-symmetric geometries, as well as designs where the third dimension is not a significant factor in the analysis. Typical applications include:
 - Motors
- Generators
- Actuators
- Sensors
- Magnetic Shielding
- NDT Equipment
- Magnetic Separation
- Magnetic Levitation
- X-Ray tubes
- Electron Lithography
- Induction heating
- Magnetization process of permanent magnets
- Scientific Apparatus including MRI
OPERA-2d includes modules for the analysis of:
- Electrostatic Fields
- Lossy (conducting) dielectrics
- Magnetostatic Fields
- Time Varying Fields
- Motion Induced Currents
- Rotational Motion
- Linear Motion
- Space Charge Analysis
- Mechanical Stress Analysis
- Transient and Steady State Thermal Analysis
- Magnetization and Demagnetization 'in service'
OPERA-2d offers powerful features including:- Automatic Finite Element Mesh Generation
- Non Linear and Anisotropic Materials
- Coupling to external circuits
- Powerful Post-Processing including ability to compute energy and power, force and torque, contour maps of any variable, harmonics analysis and particle trajectories.
- Environment for parameterization and creating custom menus
