The software packages Opera and Concerto are used to model a wide range of applications. To help decide which software package is most suitable for a specific application area, the following pages give some guidelines. Choose the closest application area, and see which software tool is recommended. The following general categories can be selected: - Machines: This includes all aspects of electrical machine and generator design, including effects of motion, external driving circuits and advanced material properties.
- Consumer Devices: There are a number of electromagnetic devices widely encountered in consumer products in common use. These include microwave ovens, TV tubes, computer displays and recording heads (both in tape players and computer storage devices).
- Defense & Transport: Defense and Transport applications can be very demanding, requiring highly accurate solutions. The examples shown include magnetic signatures of ships, magnetic braking, linear motors, and non-destructive testing.
- Scientific & Industrial: Specialised techniques are required to model the kinds of equipment used for scientific applications. These can range from mass spectrometers, cyclotrons, magnets (to bend particle beams in accelerators, or for use in a MRI system). Industrial application range from transformers to magnetic heating.
- Communications: A wide range of products fall into this category, many of which require the modeling tool Concerto. Components can include filters, waveguide junctions, couplers and multiplexers as well as larger components such as antennas.
