LOSSY DIELECTRICS Print E-mail

OPERA-2d/LD option solves lossy dielectric problems. It models the behavior of devices consisting of materials with both conductive and dielectric properties under steady-state and transient conditions. OPERA-2d/LD provides three field solution modules that address designs with conducting dielectric materials.

Electrostatic solution
Statics (ST)

The program solves a current flow problem and uses the results as input to an electrostatic problem. The software determines whether to solve the conduction (current flow) equation in addition to the electrostatic equation by determining if the model contains any materials where the conductivity, σ, is non-zero.

Time varying (harmonic) solver (SS)

In time-varying problems, the electric and magnetic fields are normally solved in a coupled manner (assuming that inductive effects are negligible in semiconducting dielectric problems).

Transient Solver (TR)

LD solution
As with the Time harmonic Solver, the FE formulation is based on the assumption that inductive effects are negligible, leading to a quasi-static electric formulation.

OPERA-2d/LD is routinely used for the accurate evaluation of electric fields around cable junctions and terminations as well as power line insulators.
