Consumer Devices Print E-mail

There are a number of electromagnetic devices widely encountered in consumer products in common use. These include microwave ovens, TV tubes, computer displays and recording heads (both in tape players and computer storage devices).

Microwave ovens

Using the Concerto software, the field distribution within the oven can be computed. The power loss in the load, and the SAR can be computed averaged over time.

Charged Particle Beam Modeling

The flow of charged particles through electric or magnetic fields can be computed. In addition, the effects of the space charge within the beam can be included. To accurately model the complete device, the physics of the emitting surface must also be included. Opera-3d/Scala is designed for this demanding application. If a 2D analysis is sufficient, the package Opera-2d/sp can be used.

Recording Heads

An important consideration is the small "footprint" of the field at the tip of a recording head. This allows increased density of data recording. To help in the design, Opera-3d/Tosca is used to perform virtual prototypes. If eddy currents are induced, they too can be modeled using the Opera-3d/Elektra package.

Loudspeaker

Transducer engineers can balance the design variables within a loudspeaker motor assembly using dynamic and motional solvers within the Opera suite.

The voice coil acceleration and displacement can be accurately predicted in Opera, accounting for the damping and resonance of the mechanical system affecting the motion. This allows for the design of a high fidelity system within the Opera environment.
