CARMEN Print E-mail

Carmen can be used to compute electromagnetic fields including the effects of eddy currents in moving systems such as rotary and linear motors in three dimensions.

In Carmen, parts of the mesh are allowed to move independantly at speeds controlled by the user: constant variable speeds, or coupling to mechanical systems is possible. The analysis is transient, with eddy currents being induced in conducting media both through the effects of moving fields and time variation of model sources. Sources can be current driven or voltage driven via external circuits.

Linear, or nonlinear, permable and conducting materials with isotropic or anisotropic properties may be specified. The analysis relies upon a re-meshing technique of specific air gap regions which connect stationary and moving parts.
